select "Continue" in the appearing installer window
select "Continue" to accept the license agreement
click "Agree"
choose the correct startup disk to install the software to and click "Continue"
click "Continue"
you are asked for the password of a privileged user to install the software, please provide the credentials for an admin user
The installation has finished successfully. Click "Close" to exit the installer program.
Open up the system preferences
select "Print & Fax"
click the "+" sign to add a new printer
select "IP" from the top of the window, set the protocol to LPD. Enter the IP address of the printer and add a descriptive name to identify the printer in your system. Then choose from the "Print Using:" drop down menu the entry "Select Printer Software..."
enter something like "sharp mx-2600" into the search field of the now occuring window and select the entry "SHARP MX-2600N PPD" and click "OK"
Click "Add"
select the installed options of the printer:
Output Tray Options: Finisher
Punch Module: Installed
Right Tray: Installed
Open up some application (e.g. Safari) and open up the print dialog. Select "Job Handling" from the drop down menu beneath the setting for "Orientation"
select the tab "Authentication" and enter the PIN number assigned to you in the "User Number" field
save this settings in a new preset using the entry "Save as..." from the drop down "Presets" and add a descriptive name for the preset
Installation using Ubuntu
The following instructions apply to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, but should also work on other flavors of Linux/Unix (e.g. OpenSolaris) if using the CUPS printing system.
Download the patched PPD file IAS-MX-2600N.ppd to allow user authentication using the PINs supplied by IAS administration
open up "System" → "Administration" → "Printing"
click "Add"
drop down "Network Printer", select "AppSocket/HP JetDirect " and enter the following data and click "Forward": Host: 10.155.19.98 Port: 9100
select "Provide PPD file", open up the file select dialog
select the downloaded PPD file provided here
click "Forward"
click "Forward" on the page listing installable options, the PPD is already configured conrrectly
change the data as seeming fit for your environment, or accept defaults
