Proxy

In order to reach some services (for example external TUM library offers) or the Internet from restricted networks in the FMI building, the proxy server must be used.

The proxy has only port 80 and 443 open. Thus it is only possible to open Internet pages (http / https). Other services such as mail (no webmail), sharing services, Skype, etc. are not available.
These are the general proxy information:

  • Proxy type: HTTP
  • Server: proxy.cit.tum.de
  • Port: 8080

You can use our proxy only within the Munich Science Network, I.e. in the FMI building or from home via VPN.

If you forget to use the proxy again, the browser will show a warning that you are not allowed to use proxy.cit.tum.de.

1. Proxy in Firefox

When using firefox, your connections will be routed through the cit proxy.

You can verify this by visiting https://ip.sft.mx, where you should see 2a09:80c0::2 or 131.159.0.2 as your publicly visible IP address.

2. Windows System-wide Proxy

If you use Chrome you can go under Settings → Advanced Settings → Proxy also enter a proxy. The button under Chrome links to the Windows system-wide proxy.

To configure the system-wide proxy, first open the Control Panel by right-clicking on the Start button on Windows 8, directly in the bar on Windows 7, or search for Control Panel in the Global Search of Windows 10.

Now search for internet options. You either enter it in the search top right, you put on big icons / small icons or search again in the global search for it (so you could have saved the step with the search for control panelemoticon_wink).

In the new window select the tab Connections and there LAN Settings.

Here you put the check mark at "Use Proxy Server for LAN" and enter the proxy information.

Do not let it be confused that it is LAN settings, LAN stands for Local Area Network and works for both the LAN cable connection and the WLAN.
